PRP Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment

What is PRP?

PRP, commonly known as the Vampire Facial, has become one of the most popular procedures in the Medi-spa industry. This PRP treatment delivers fast results and impressive healing times while providing exceptional collagen stimulation. It serves as an effective skin rejuvenation treatment that can be combined with any surgical or non-surgical procedure. The process involves using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) obtained from the client's own blood to stimulate new collagen and promote faster healing. Depending on the treatment area, blood is drawn into a sterile vial, and the platelets are separated from the red blood cells using a centrifuge machine. The PRP is then re-injected or topically applied to the area of concern.

How Does It Work?

PRP is rich in growth factors, and when applied to any damaged area of the body, it immediately stimulates collagen synthesis, enabling quicker tissue repair. The PRP facial is particularly beneficial for individuals with wrinkles, sun damage, or scars. By reintroducing PRP into the skin, cell proliferation is encouraged, leading to increased elastin and collagen production. Consequently, the skin appears tighter, fuller, and smoother.

This treatment is well-known for its synergy with microneedling treatments, often referred to as the ‘Vampire Facial’. However, it can also serve as a booster for various ablative treatments, including micro laser peels, skin resurfacing treatments, and acne scar removal. Platelet Rich Plasma can be applied directly to the skin post-ablative treatment or injected under the skin to promote rejuvenation, addressing volume loss, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Moreover, PRP has been proven to aid in hair growth stimulation for clients experiencing thinning hair or hair loss. Whether injected or topically applied, Platelet Rich Plasma consistently delivers fast-acting results.

Post Treatment Instructions

Additional Information

Do not touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area(s) for at least 8 hours after your PRP treatment, which is designed for collagen stimulation and skin rejuvenation. AVOID Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve (all non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory agents), Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Flax oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week prior to and after your Vampire Facial. Remember, we are creating inflammation for effective hair growth stimulation. If you experience discomfort or pain, you may take Tylenol or other Acetaminophen products. You may apply ice to the injected area for 20 - 30 minutes after the procedure. Do not wash or take a shower for at least 6 hours following your treatment. Avoid using any lotions, creams, or make-up for at least 6 hours post-treatment. AVOID vigorous exercise, sun, and heat exposure for at least 1 week after your skin rejuvenation treatment. AVOID alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 3 days before and after your PRP treatment. Smokers do not heal well, and problems may recur earlier, causing results to take longer. Maintain a healthy diet and drink at least 64 oz of water on the day of the treatment (Fiji water is recommended due to its high silica content); continue this hydration for the first week after. It is normal to experience bruising, redness, itching, soreness, and swelling that may last from 3 to 10 days following your procedure. Please call our office with any questions or concerns regarding your PRP treatment or aftercare.

Side Effects of PRP Facial Rejuvenation

Side effects from PRP treatment are minimal: Generally, you can expect minimal swelling, bruising, and redness for 12-24 hours, but it may last longer. This is not a problem as all individuals heal at different rates. The treatment is effective for collagen stimulation, hair growth stimulation, and skin rejuvenation, making it a popular choice for procedures like the Vampire Facial.

Expectations for - PRP

Results from skin rejuvenation treatments, such as PRP treatment and the popular Vampire Facial, are visible at 3 weeks and gradually improve over the ensuing months, enhancing texture and tone through collagen stimulation. While cosmeceuticals and light therapies can further enhance these results, it's important to note that advanced wrinkling cannot be reversed, and only minimal improvement is predictable for individuals with drug, alcohol, and tobacco usage. Additionally, severe scarring may or may not respond to these treatments.

FAQs

Platelet-rich plasma, known as PRP for short, is a concentrate of platelets in plasma derived from a sample of whole blood. It is 100% natural with little to no risk of side effects.

PRP is loaded with growth factors and essential proteins. This non-surgical treatment takes your own platelets and applies them to the areas of your scalp with thinning hair to stimulate the follicles and regrow your hair.

  • It's nonsurgical, with no downtime, anesthesia, or significant safety risks.
  • It costs significantly less than hair transplant surgery.

This procedure is effective in reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and pore size all while stimulating collagen and elastin at a faster rate than average. The growth factors in a higher concentration that would normally be found in an injury, induces extra collagen, and new cells, and increase the normal vascularity of the skin. This has a profound effect on the look of our skin. The growth factors, mesenchymal stem cells, cytokines, platelets, and other healing components in the PRP serum enter the puncture wounds (via micro-needling) into the lower layers of the skin. Here, they act on the collagen and elastin and induce the layer to produce more cells quickly. The skin can also use the PRP elements as building blocks to rebuild the tissies faster.

These treatments are virtually for anyone between the ages of 20-80. All skin tones may be treated. Disqualifying factors would be anyone with a blood disorder, skin disease, cancer, and chemotherapy patients and those with severe metabolic and systemic disorders and with chronic liver pathology.

Hair: We may either numb the scalp using topical numbing or nerve blocks and this is a client preference. The blood draw is performed, the sample is centrifuged, and PRP is isolated. This product is drawn up in 1ml syringes and directly injected into the scalp. Appointment time is 1/2 hour to 1 hour.
Face: We use a topical numbing agent and perform a blood draw and centrifuge to isolate the PRP. Once the product is isolated provider and client will determine if any direct injection will be performed or if micro-needling alone will be the application

Hair: Initial treatment every 30 days for a total of 3 treatments. Anything beyond this is up to the client.
Face: Every 3 to 6 weeks. The more treatments received, the more significant the result.

The most common areas treated are the Eyes, Cheeks and mid-face, mouth, neck, chest and Décolletage, Jaw-line, and back of hands and arms.

  •  Your practitioner will assess the degree of skin aging, perform a skin analysis, and recommend a sensible treatment with a reasonable outcome.
  • Options for facial rejuvenation are explained to you, including efficacy and safety. Cost analysis is discussed as the number of sessions possibly required.
  • A photograph of the skin is taken to assist in the follow-up and grading of the improvement
  • A topical numbing agent may be used
  • Prior to treatment a blood sample of 20 - 120ml is extracted from the patient. This blood is placed in the centrifuge for about 15 minutes. When centrifugation is complete your plasma will be separated from your red blood cells. The rich platelets are extracted and prepared for injection.
  • The PRP is then injected into the skin. Platelets gradually increase collagen which can increase skin thickness and overall health of the skin.
  • This process and injection time takes approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour in total.

No. Swelling from the fluid is what you will see and feel first. Once the swelling has subsided you will not see much change at all. Over a few weeks, the Platelets will stimulate the growth factors which will assist in more collagen growth.

This will depend upon the health and age of your skin. Normally it is advised to have 2-3 treatments 4 weeks apart. However, your clinician will determine your treatment protocol according to your skin condition.

Treatment results vary however in most patients the results last up to 18-24 months. Yearly touch-up treatments are recommended and will maintain the results.
