Laser hair removal is effective and produces excellent results. However, laser targets by looking for pigments in the hair. If the hair is light or has no color, laser becomes much less effective. In contrast, electrolysis can treat all hair and skin types. As mentioned above, electrolysis works by inserting a fine filament into the hair follicle and sending a small current to stop its growth; the hair is then pulled out with tweezers. Electrolysis can be used for white hair, fine hair, blonde hair, red hair, grey hair, and on all skin types as well.

Another advantage of electrolysis is that it offers more control and precision. As it targets individual hair follicle, it offers flexibility working with fine areas including the eyebrows and earlobes. Our experienced aestheticians are highly trained to help you get the look you want.

Every person’s tolerance to pain is slightly different but in general electrolysis has been likened to a small stinging sensation. It is painless for most people. However, in areas that are more sensitive such as the corners of the lips or the under the nose, you may feel just slightly uncomfortable. Many people relax by listening to music, reading, or even napping when being treated. 

Venus Velocity™ hair removal treatments can be done on darker skin tones, even tanned skin, but using different settings, as there is a higher risk of discoloration (since darker skin has more pigment in it). The technician will perform a test spot and wait between 15 minutes to 48 hours, depending on your skin tone, to assess your reaction to the laser. He/she would know best what treatment parameters are most appropriate to use for your skin type.

Yes, Venus Velocity™ treatments are fast, even on larger areas like the back or two full legs. It’s also ideal for treating multiple areas, like the bikini area and underarms.

Most patients receive 6-10 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person’s skin type, hair color and texture, and the area being treated. 

Electrolysis requires an average of 8-12 sessions but it can vary from person to person depending upon the type of hair and treatment area. Coarser and darker hair will take more sessions so the cost of electrolysis will vary.

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams or makeup (if you’re getting a treatment on your face) before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated. They will also ask about your medical history, so it helps to have that information ready. 

A topical anesthetic cream such as 4% lidocaine, BLT cream, or EMLA may also be applied to the area at least one hour prior to your appointment. A thick layer of anesthetic cream, no larger than the size of your palm, should be applied to the treatment area.

Continue applying Aloe Vera gel for the next 21 days. To prevent irritation and the spread of infection, do not pick spots or small blood scabs which may appear a couple of days after treatment and depending on the skin, may take between 7–21 days to heal.

 Keep the treated area clean with a mild skin cleanser. Make sure that it hasn't got any harsh glycolic acids in it, as these will cause sensitivity.

Avoid rubbing, scratching, and over-touching the treated area within the first 24-hours post-treatment. Refrain from using products like perfume immediately following treatment. Isopropyl alcohol burns and can irritate the treated area because the pores are open.

After 5 to 7+ days or when redness disappears, exfoliate, and moisturize the area. Use fresh make-up, purchased within the last 90 days to minimize infection.

• Avoid: Hot baths, showers.
• Avoid: Swimming.
• Avoid: Applying make-up to the treated area.
• Avoid: Applying soap or perfumed products to the treated area.
• Avoid: Activities for 48 hours that stimulate blood flow following treatment.
• Avoid: Wearing tight or restricted clothing over treated body areas.

After 5 to 7+ days or when redness disappears, exfoliate, and moisturize the area. Use fresh make-up, purchased within the last 90 days to minimize infection.

I recommend that exercise be suspended for 1-2 days after treatment. However, if you must then I recommend keeping your face clean with witch hazel.

Refrain from touching the treated area, avoid direct sunlight, warm baths or long showers, hot, humid air or anything which may irritate the skin for 24 hours. If you do touch the treated area, be sure to wash the treated area with a mild soap and then dry it to prevent infection.
